If only....

If only....

For those of you who were following me on Runing for Walking, welcome back to my life. For those of you who are new to my life welcome as well.

A brief intro….

I’m 182 in dog years…..which is coincidentally completely awesome! I grew up in a sleepy little town in North East Ohio called Salem. Ohio’s slogan is “At the Heart of it All”. I don’t know about it being the hear of it “ALL”, but it is most certainly at the heart of being, grey, drab, dull, and boring. The skies are always over cast, it’s freezing cold most of the year, and outside of Cedar Point, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it really doesn’t have much to offer. Sorry Ohioan’s if the truth hurts. I really have no love for that state at all, and got out as soon as I could. When I graduated from highschool I really wasn’t sure what to do with myself. I went to Youngstown State University for a year, majoring in computer science but wasn’t happy. Sitting in front of a computer screen all day just wasn’t my idea of a good time, and I knew I coudln’t do the 9-5 thing. I knew my job had to be something I enjoyed, and was part iof my life. So I ditched the full ride at YSU and went $60,000 in debt to go to Film School in North Carolina. I spent 4 years at the North Carolina School of the Arts majoring in Art Direction. I tried to focus on Set Decoration as that is where my passion lies. Actually, when I was accepted into NCSA I had originally planned on going into the screen writing department but after the first semester I quickly realized “that I had no voice….what am I saying I had no talent. ” Anyone who recognizes that quote is ok i’m my book.

Leaving Ohio and going into debt was probably one of the best decisions I ever made.

My personality is one of striving to do better. I’m always looking to top what I just did and very rarely am I ever satisfied because I know I can always do better. I’m also a very goal oriented person. I function best when I have a target, goal, or destination infront of me, but that goal can always be higher. I always have some kind project in the works. I’m never idle. I just don’t do well with down time. I’m ambitious and perhaps a little grandiose by nature. I always set lofty goals. I might even be tempted to classify some of them as a little unrealsitic, but I just believe that if your truly want something, you’ll make it happen somehow. So I just believe and march ever forward. The bar can always be raised.

One of my more lofty goals is of course Running for Walking. For the newbies, RFW is a fundraising project that I began around two years ago. My plan was, and still is, to raise money and awareness for Multiple Sclerosis through challenging the human mind, body, and spirit. I plan to attempt to run from North Carolina to good old Salem Ohio. It’s approximately a 450 mile journey. Ideally I would like to accomplish this feat over the course of 3 weeks. That would mean running one standard marathon per day, or 26.2 miles, with 3 rest days. This whole thing started out as a crazy idea I got when I was out for a run on a cold January night. It just took on a life of it’s own from there.

In the beginning I really had no clue what I was doing, I just started running. Then I started researching and talking to people who had attempted similar feats. I was taken by complete surprise at the amount of interest and support that I received. People really went out of their way to help me through financial contributions, straight up advice, and medical and training help. I had trainers, nutritionists, and doctors all come out for my cause. It was really incredible.

Considerig that I was pretty much spearheading this whole project I think I made significant progress and laid a great deal of groundwork. I got a website up and running, created promotional videos and sponsor packets, mapped out a route and traveled it, and I got a fair amount of publicity generated in the form of web, news papers, podcasts etc.

On top of all the logistical accomplishments, I got into the best physical shape of my life. I had a pretty rigorous training schedule. I was putting in between 50 – 70 miles per week. At my peek I was at the point where I could put in 3 20-26 milers per week and still feel alright.

I got very addicted to running. But I suppose if you have to be addicted to something….

I had originally set a target date of Fall of 2008. That date was too ambitious. With graduating, and entering the so called real world I just couldn’t pull of the logstics together in time on my own. But like I said it’s in my nature to be overly ambitious. I also need much more trainig time, years really, to get into the kind of shape I need to be in and to build up the kind of endurance I need.

I’ve lost a lot of my endurance due having been met with a veritable onslaught of personal challenges and from being overloaded with work. I’ve barely had enough time to hit the gym and sneak in a few runs a week. Though I realize that my career is always going to keep me very busy so I must find a way to make it jive.

I’m currently living in Charleston SC and working on the Lifetime Show Army Wives. Right now my life is pretty much consumed by work. Monday – Friday I’m usually up by 5am and home by 8 or 9pm. At the end of the day I’m usually racing home just to get to sleep. I’m not complaining at all though. I’m very fortunate to be doing what I love and to be getting paid well for it. I really don’t look at my job as work at all, it’s more like getting up every day and going to play and hang out with my friends. It’s just a lot of playing and hanging out. LOL.

Well that’s a little lot o bit about me, and what I’ve been up to. Here’s some more of my general intersts and character traits.

I really listen to everything. My iTunes is filled with everything from Blink 182 to Ulrich Shnauss to The Birthday Party Massacre, to Vivaldi. I never know what I’m going to be in the mood for so I think it best to be prepared.

Music, movies, running, frisbee cycling, that kinda sums up what I do with my free time. I’m also a huge tech geek, and hopelessly in love with Apple. I’m blogging this on my iPhone.

I’m a huge Sci-fi geek. I grew up on Star Trek and Star Wars. The Empire Strikes Back is my all time favorite film. Some other films that have had a big impact on me or I just enjoy are Metropolis, Dumb and Dumber, The Dark Knight, Closer, Old Boy, Love Actually
