Trek vs Specialized

Ding Ding!

Tonight….in the red corner we have…

The Specialized Allez Elite Compact

Picture 6Weighing in at just over 18 lbs, with a lightweight aluminum frame, Shimano 105 components through, and through, and a compact crank set, carbon fork, seat post and seat stays. With an MSRP of $1,550, you’re getting a lot of bike for the money. A great entry level, competitive road bike, with solid components.

And in the Blue corner we have….

The Trek 2.1 triple

Picture 7Weighing in at just over 17 lbs, with a super light weight aluminum frame 105 derailuers, shifters, rear cogs, brake levers, and tiagra brakes. It has a carbon fork, and seat post, botranger wheels and a triple cank set for tackling hills and headwinds. With an MSRP of $1,429 it’s a fast and stable ride, excellent for long hours in the saddle.

and the winner is…..

TREK 2.1!!!

I really prefer Trek over all other bike companies. So though I think the Specialized handled a little better and was a little more nimble, I went with, in my opinion, the better company. The geometry of the Allez is also a little more aggressive, making it more of a competitive race bike, where as the Trek’s design is more compliant, and geared towards endurance and long rides, and not necessarily speed, and that fits my needs perfectly. Don’t underestimate this machine though, it’s still wicked fast. Plus there is a Trek store near by and the guys there are great. Much better than the Charleston Bicycle Shop. Sorry CBS but every time I went into the store everyone was kind of a jerk and the Trek guys are totally laid back, friendly, and all about getting you on the bike that you need to be on. I’m going to pick my new baby up with my cycling buddy Sebastian today. Super Stoked!
